Hopi ear candles, also known as Thermal Auricular Therapy, have been used in many cultures for hundreds of years, including those of Latin American and Mediterranean origin. Only in recent days have the native American Hopi Indians of Arizona shared their knowledge of this age old treatment with The West. It is also believed that the Ancient Greeks practised this therapy to spiritually heal, purify and cleanse, subsequently for its evident physical benefits.
Hopi candles are hollow tubes made from organically grown beeswax and flax, infused with herbs such as sage, St John's Wort, camomile and pure essential oils. They offer a non-invasive treatment of the ears and can be used to treat a variety of conditions.
Whilst lying on your side or back, snug under a blanket, the candle is gently placed into the ear and the end lit. The candle acts like a chimney, drawing any impurities to the surface, gently massaging the ear drum whilst equalising the pressure in the head and ears. As the candle burns, a slight fizzing or crackling noise may be heard, whilst the warmth gently encompasses the ear, head and neck area, leaving the ear and head feeling lighter and less congested. This wonderfully soothing and warm treatment is completed with a soothing facial massage.
